New billet casting line inaugurated

On November 7th, 2009 the new billet casting line started production in the casting house at AWW. The essential measures taken with this new trendsetting investment are:

1. Renewal of the mould and gutter system

2. Extension of the production hall as well as extension of the scrap and dross storage area

3. Newly built carpenter's workshop and renewal of the cooling tower

4. Installation of a 20 ton smelting and casting furnace with a charging machine.

By these measures and for the benefit of the customers the weight of one cast could be increased considerably. Energy costs will be reduced. Workers and neighbours will be pleased about a reduction of noise disturbance from scrap handling.

With this investment the casting capacity of the foundry rises to approximately 130 tons per day. A full utilisation in continuous operation leads to a theoretical overall capacity of more than 42.000 tons.

The Hot Top casting technology used enables AWW also to manufacture highest qualities. Furthermore the second casting machine will be relieved, setting free capacity for the production of customised special alloys. This investment strengthens the position of the AWW in the market, secures the jobs in Wutöschingen and increases the flexibility and potential of AWW for the benefit of our customers.
