New special CNC machine with two spindle heads

EiMa

A special milling machine with two spindle heads has been put into operation by AWW for aluminium profile machining. It is now possible to machine profiles with lengths of up to 14 m, which are predominantly used within the fields of commercial and rail vehicles, as well as in materials handling technology and for façade elements. The 5-axis special CNC system with a portal design can be used to machine straight or curved aluminium profiles.
The system has two spindles, each of which carries a tool changer. Each tool changer can hold 21 machine tools and a saw blade with a 500 mm diameter. The machine heads can be coupled together and jointly used or individually used to process different programmes on two router tables. Long bed machining of up to 14.7 m is also possible. The feed rates on the X axis reach up to 100 m/min.
The system equipment can be used to carve outmachine multiple components from an one extrusion profile. The CNC-controlled jaws also make it possible to separate profiles during machining and then pull them apart to machine the faces. The components can be machined on all four sides and on their faces in a single clamping cycle.
To precisely machine the profiles, they can be measured before or during the machining process. This means that the measurements recorded immediately influence the machining. The system is programmed using a modern CAD-CAM system (Computer-Aided Manufacturing), which enables us to import 3-D models directly into the programming software.
