Innovation by tradition

Aluminium, with its versatile processing options and countless application areas is one of the most fascinating materials of all. This is what Franz Burr must have thought when he started the aluminium tradition in Wutöschingen with the construction of an aluminium foundry in 1902.

The cornerstone for Aluminium-Werke Wutöschingen (AWW ) was laid in 1914 when the present owners’ ancestors acquired the company that has since been expanded into a rolling mill and developed into one of the most modern semi-finished product plants in Europe. Curt Freiherr von Salmuth was able to rebuild the plant after its complete destruction at the end of the Second World War. Today, his grandsons, Gebhard Freiherr von Salmuth and Johannes Freiherr von Salmuth are the fifth generation to head the company.

From the very beginning Aluminium-Werke Wutöschingen and the name AWW have been synonymous with innovative and superior products of the highest quality. It is not without good reason that important components for the Graf Zeppelin airships were manufactured at AWW. The experience gained here went into the production of high-strength aluminium panels for aircraft construction and the manufacture of extruded profiles, with great importance traditionally being placed at AWW on the manufacture, and, in particular, high precision processing and finishing of extruded profiles to meet the most stringent of requirements.

Today, not only high quality aluminium profiles and innovative system components are manufactured in Wutöschingen. AWW has also made a name for itself worldwide as market and technology leader in the production of slugs. A 170 million euros turnover is achieved by around 600 aluminium specialists who work with heart and mind to produce optimal aluminium solutions. They know that first-class results and the highest customer satisfaction are only achieved through a combination of passion and expertise. It is no accident that AWW has: “We live and breathe aluminium and have done so for more than 100 years" among its core values.
